VW 1969

LIFE 1969 VW ad
LIFE magazine, August 8 1969, just after the first lunar landing.

I've got a couple of LIFE magazines from July/August 1969. Since we're approaching the 40th anniversary of our first steps on the moon, I'll post them as able.

Yep! It was a very innovative ad campaign, and it worked well in positioning them as outside the mainstream and proud to be there.

It's cute! I remember when I was little, I went to a TV repair shop with my mom and I saw a little lunar module toy. It spun around on the floor, and when it stopped, a little astronaut popped out. I'd give anything to find that toy! It was SO cute! I thought of that toy when I saw this picture!

It makes me remeber cardoard model of module from 'America' magazine. I think I only got to making descent stage (lower part). It was long ago, I was around 9.

I think there was more leg room in the VW Beetle then the LEM. But I bet the heater worked better in the LEM.

Haha, I wish I was around when these ads first ran and they would have been considered totally bold and innovative.
