oooh, nice anti-Catholic dig in there as well as antisemitic and racist all in one go. Feeling a bit nauseous, I shudder to think of a time when they had the nerve to advertise publicly.
During the 1920s, the KKK was pretty widespread in the northwest, specifically Oregon, where KKK members held several political offices. I'd have to look it up to find exactly which ones and their terms, but I do know it was quite active here (I believe it was a few mayoral posts and some state offices). The book listed, Convent Cruelties is a KKK publication, even though the ad doesn't mention that. It's a very sensatonal story; pretty typical propaganda. That doesn't mean that some people were not suited for convent life and/or there weren't any abuses at the time, but this needs to be taken with an entire boxcar of salt. Interesting reading, though. You can still get it through ILL.
The magazine was called The Watcher on the Tower.
