Hiram Walker
I live in the neighborhood where the Hiram Wlaker Distillery is, where Canadian Club is made. The distillery was begun in the 1850s, and Hiram Walker created his own community to support his business. He built housing for his workers, managers and executive, and his son Chandler, built "Willistead Manor" in 1904, a Tudor-Jacobean style mansion. Hiram built his own railway to reach his farms in the county, a town hall, churches, an inn, and other businesses. "Walkerville" is now a neighborhood of Windsor, Ontario. I live in Walkerville in a century home, and it takes me about 15 minutes to walk to the distillery. You know when a fresh batch is being made because the neighborhood smells like baking bread from all of the grain fermenting.
