If you wanted to help Ukraine...

I wanted to post this earlier in the week; but obviously didn't.

We can talk shit about Putin to infinity (we're usually non-political, but there's exceptions); but I won't allow hate mongering against Russian citizens or soldiers. Many soldiers had no idea they were invading another country. Russian citizens have been fed propaganda for years and are being so about the war on Russian TV. Those who protest, and there are thousands, are risking 15 years in jail. They still protest. We're on a Russian site and from my personal experiences from working with them, they're good people. When we had our first 'Gay Equality Day' and I got all these death threats in Russian. LJ support were great (and supportive!)

If anyone wanted to help the people of Ukraine I looked into some charities and will link them here. You could also see if where you live has an Ukrainian Church or cultural center that has either a fund to contribute to, or is doing something to directly help refugees.

UNICEF fund for Ukrainian children

A Polish fund to help with refugees

Doctors Without Borders

International Medical Corps

Choose Love helps the LGBTQAI+ community of Ukraine

ifaw helps animals, we can't forget them!

There are many other places to donate; but I would be remiss if I didn't post some.

Some people are deleting their LJs in protest of Russia. That is certainly an individual choice; but I don't think that affects Putin. Becoming a worldwide outcast affects him. It's a shame every day Russians have to suffer the consequences of his actions. He's destroying Ukraine because it wasn't a 2 day coup as he thought it would be. I dunno bout y'all, but this is giving me bad 80's flashbacks to saber rattling and the cold war. Except now we can watch it live, get updates by the minute, and it leaves, well at least me, feeling helpless for those in Ukraine who've had to flee their homes and everything they knew, and they're lucky, others lose their lives while fleeing or in their own homes or the hospital.

It's just really hard to grasp that this is happening in this day and age.
